Location

Pay a visit to two of New Zealand's most stunning areas - Milford Sound and the Mt Cook National Park - with this combined package and save over 25%! You'll get a double-dose of some of the most stunning parts of NZ's Fiordland region over the course of two marvellous days; the first of which will see you heading on a breathtaking journey into the heart of Milford Sound from Queenstown and witnessing the spectacle of this world-famous fiord firsthand. Combining road and water travel, you'll see the likes of the Eglinton Valley and Homer Tunnel, take a walk over The Chasm and see its cascading waterfalls, and much more.

Next you'll hop aboard a comfortable cruising vessel for a tour down the heart of Milford Sound itself - a location that is annually listed among the most beautiful on Earth. Sheer rock walls clash with pristine blue water and vibrant forests to make for a postcard-perfect destination.

On the second day, travel from Queenstown to the Mt Cook National Park - NZ's highest peak - and head through the rugged Kawarau River Gorge and into the high country landscape that New Zealand is famous for. Relax and enjoy a delicious three-course lunch (extra charge) while taking in the amazing views over the Mackenzie Basin before returning to Queenstown in the early evening.

Itinerary

Day 1

  • Take a scenic trip to Milford Sound and see the world-famous fiord in all its glory with a cruise on its immaculate waters.

  • from Queenstown, travel past placid Te Anau, along the Eglinton Valley and through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2km underpass drilled through solid rock. Experience The Chasm, a short but thrilling walk over footbridges spanning powerful waterfalls and rapids.

  • Milford Sound, board your 1 3/4 hour scenic cruise and explore the length of the fiord. View glacier-scarred rock walls, lush native forest and waterfalls that tumble through valleys and crash into the sea below, as well as the dramatic profile of Mitre Peak, rising out of the fiord to a height of 1,692 metres above sea level.

  • After your cruise, return to Queenstown by coach.

Day 2

  • On your second day, embark on a day trip from Queenstown to Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, home to New Zealand's highest mountain.

  • Travel north, through the historic gold mining region of the rugged Kawarau River Gorge and past Cromwell, crossing the Lindis Pass and arriving at Omarama for morning tea (own expense).

  • We continue through the rugged high country landscape of the Mackenzie Basin to Mount Cook Village, where you can gaze up at the 3,754 metre-high mountain Aoraki / Mount Cook, an important landmark in Mฤori mythology.

  • Enjoy the views from the iconic Hermitage Hotel over a delicious three course lunch (optional extra). There is also the chance to take off on a scenic flight over snow-capped mountains and ancient glaciers (additional cost, weather permitting โ€“ this can be arranged with your driver/guide on the day).

  • Following our lunch stop, we depart Mount Cook Village and retrace our journey to Queenstown, arriving in the early evening.

Milford sound and Mt cook were beautiful places

Milford sound and Mt cook were beautiful places, every one visit New Zealand should go there. However, the tour was beyond our expectations. We spent most the time on the coach and we had little time on Milford Sound and Mt Cook. We was not able to do any activities on Mt Cook except some walking. If you go there I would recommend having a hotel and spend the next day on Mt Cook.

The guides are very knowledgeable

The guides are very knowledgeable, they have shared many interesting information. Plenty of good photo-taking stops along the way as well. Overall, it was a fun and good experience. Do bring along your own lunch for the Milford Sound trip if you do not intend to go for for the buffet on the cruise. This information should be provided in the tour details.

Booked on line well ahead of trip

Booked on line well ahead of trip. Found confirmation of next morning pick-up when we arrived at our hotel. Pick up and drop off from hotel great. Travelled two consecutive days, Milford Sound then Mt Cook. Disappointed that the bus did not carry chains so visit to Mt Cook was cut short due to snow. Lunch at the Hermitage Hotel was completed but rushed. However, driver was great and took us safely down the mountain with minimum of fuss. Good value all round. Much easier (and safer) than driving yourself.
